Objectives:
By the end of this subject students will be familiar with the pinyin system of romanisation, they should be able to write approximately 200 Chinese characters, and they should be able to conduct simple conversations on a limited number of topics.
Content:
Spoken and written Chinese for students with no previous knowledge of the language.
Assessment:
One aural/oral examination (1 hour); assignments and short written tests to a maximum of 5,000 words. Students will be required to attend a minimum of 70% of all classes in order to be eligible to take the examinations.
