Objectives:
Students completing this subject should:
- be able to read and understand standard Malaysian;
- be able to read the Jawi (Arabic) script.
- have a general knowledge of Malaysian history, ethnic diversity, culture and politics;
Content:
Familiarisation with Malaysian Malay and with the way it differs from standard Indonesian. Familiarisation with the Arabic-derived Jawi script. Introduction to Malaysian culture, history and society.
Assessment:
Class assignments totalling not more than 4,000 words (60%), and a written 2-hour examination (40%).
