Prerequisite: Students must be enrolled in the Indonesian Honours Program, and enrolment in the subject is subject to approval of the Coordinator. Students should note that approval of a course of reading will be subject to availability of staff with expertise in the field concerned.
Contact: 1-hour a fortnight seminar and 9 hours contract reading per week

Objectives:
Students completing this subject should be able to:
- undertake independent research in Indonesian and Malaysian studies in areas of interest to them for which supervision is available;
- present the findings of their research in a scholarly manner.
Content:
Islam in Southeast Asia, Indonesian linguistics, modern Indonesian and Malay literature, modern Indonesian history and politics, Indonesian anthropology.
Assessment:
Written work totalling 6,000 words.
