Objectives:

Students on completion of the subject should be able to identify a broad range of linguistic structures; be familiar with major derivational and synthetic patterns in the lexicon, and be familiar with current usage in select linguistic domains.

Content:

Detailed study of syntax and lexicon in authentic Modern Greek texts of some complexity and contemporary usage of select linguistic domains. Students enrolled in 150-166 will also study the socio-cultural context and historical background to contemporary usage.

Assessment:

150-166:
Regular written language work up to 2,000 words (30 per cent); one essay up to 2,000 words (25 per cent); oral test (10 minutes, 5 per cent) and a 2-hour written examination (40 per cent).
150-266/366:
Regular written language work up to 3,000 words (50 per cent); oral test (10 minutes, 5 per cent) and a 2-hour written examination (45 per cent).
150-466:
Regular written language work up to 2,000 words, one oral test (ten minutes) and one project up to 2,000 words (65 per cent); and a 2-hour written examination (35 per cent).
