Credit points: 18.75 1st year, 16.7 2nd year

Prerequisite: None. No knowledge of Indonesian is assumed at the beginning of this subject.

Timetable: First semester
Objectives:
On completion of the subject students will:
- have learned a basic vocabulary and basic sentence patterns enabling them to communicate at a very simple level;
- have acquired basic knowledge about the Indonesian society and culture.
Content:
An intensive subject developing the ability to speak, read and write Indonesian.
Assessment:
Continuous assessment: oral and written assignments totalling not more than 3,000 words; and, at the end of the semester, one 2 hour written examination, a short aural comprehension test, and a 10 minute oral examination.
