Prerequisite: Normally one first year Anthropology subject (12.5 points).
Contact: Two hours of lectures and a 1-hour tutorial a week.

Objectives:
Students completing this subject should:
- have an understanding of the theoretical issues currently debated within anthropology;
- have developed a critical appreciation of the issues underlying anthropological controversies;
- have a familiarity with the major theoretical schools of anthropology.
Content:
An examination of recent theoretical developments in and critiques of anthropology. Special attention devoted to recent debates about the nature of ethnographic writing and the possibilities for the representation of other cultures.
Assessment:
Up to 5,000 words of written work and a 3-hour examination.
