Prerequisite: Normally one first-year Anthropology subject (12.5 points).
Contact: Two hours of lectures and a 1-hour tutorial a week.
Objectives:
Students completing this subject should:
- have acquired a grounding in the anthropological and comparative study of religion;
- have acquired a knowledge of the principal theories and methods employed by anthropologists in the analysis of myth and ritual systems;
- have a knowledge of the range of varieties of religious experience and representation in the worldí s societies.
Content:
The anthropological study of religion with emphasis on the comparative study of myth and ceremonial systems.
Assessment:
Written work or equivalent totalling 5,000 words.
