Objectives:
Through the work undertaken in either of these subjects, students should:
- become familiar with a major current issue in the history and philosophy of science;
- acquire experience with methods of critical analysis and argument employed within the history and philosophy of science;
- gain a background in the history and philosophy of science on which to base further study in the area.
Content:
This subject deals with current research in the history and/or philosophy of science. The subject matter can range from philosophical critiques of evolutionary theory to medical history to the role of science in debates about the environment. The exact subject matter will vary from year to year. In 1996 the subject will focus on philosophical issues in evolutionary biology.
