This subject will enable students to develop a critical understanding of the main histories of modern Vietnam with the Vietnamese themselves at the centre and 'the war' in long perspective.
Content:
The revolutionary transformation of the Nguyen Empire under French colonial rule and the consequences of internal and external attempts to thwart the forces of national and social revolution.
Assessment:
Two essays of not more than 5,000 words.
