131-254/354 The Holocaust and Genocide

Credit points: 16.7 2nd and 3rd years

Prerequisite: Normally, 25 points of first year History.

Contact: One two hour lecture and a 1-hour tutorial a week.

Timetable: First semester

Objectives:

to understand the circumstances of historical and contemporary genocides; to examine the relationship between ideology and genocide; to identify and understand the behaviour of perpetrators, bystanders and victims during the Holocaust.

Content:

The destruction of European Jewry during the Second World War with consideration given to other cases of genocide in history.

Assessment:

Written work totalling no more than 5,000 words consisting of one research essay and one reflective essay.
