Prerequisite: 50 points at third-year level in Russian subjects.
Contact: Normally three hours in each of four single-semester units offered at levels 3 and 4.
Objectives:
By the end of the subject students should be able to:from special language units: demonstrate a firm understanding of chosen areas of the Russian language (by carrying out specific written assignments):
- as a system (phonology, morphology, word-formation, translation, syntax, stylistics);
- in its history (Old Church Slavonic, Russian historical grammar, development of the literary language);
- in its relation to the other Slavonic languages, both historically and synchronically;
from special literature units: demonstrate a firm understanding of chosen areas of Russian literature of the 19th and 20th Centuries, either by period (20th C. ) or by genre (Novel, Drama, Poetry) (by essay writing and commentary, both written and oral).
Content:
Single-semester specialist units from those offered (normally four units).
