126-309 "German Third Year A (Intermediate)" appears differently in several places - choose the one you want:
1. German, Faculty of Arts (v3, p91) : Next:126-310 | Prev:126-304
Credit points: 16.7 3rd year
Coordinator: Dr A Lewis.
Prerequisite: Intermediate German Second Year B (126-204) or equivalent.
Corequisite: If the student intends proceeding to honours or wishes to do 50 points of German at third year level, it is necessary to also do one of the single semester units under German Parts 3E to 3K (126-361 to 126-367) for an additional 16.7 points. Only one such unit needs to be done in one semester to obtain 50 points for the year.
Contact: Two one-hour Special Studies units and three language hours.
Timetable: First semester
Objectives:
At the conclusion of the subject the students will have:
- enhanced the capacity to use basic idiomatic and conversational forms and the ability to employ them freely in speech;
- consolidated a level of proficiency in written structures of moderate complexity and extended the capacity to use such structures clearly and accurately;
- acquired the ability to interpret messages of a sophisticated level of complexity occurring in a variety of contexts (multi-media and social);
- developed a conceptual understanding of language use through a linguistic study of language functions;
- acquired an in-depth knowledge of the course of their Special Studies unit(s);
Content:
Analysis of linguistic structures of modern German and of the subject matter of the Special Studies units taken. (For details of these Special Studies units see departmental Course and Subject Guide)
Assessment:
One two-hour language test, one oral examination (15 minutes), two two hour Special Studies exams.
