Objectives:
Students on completion of this subject will:
- be introduced to Old Norse, the language of Scandinavia during the Viking Era (c. 800-1050 AD);
- have developed reading skills in Old Norse so that they can read simple texts;
- be introduced to the history and culture of Scandinavia during the Viking Era (c. 800-1050 AD).
Content:
An introduction to the Old Norse language and a survey of the history and culture of the Viking Era (c. 800-1050 AD).
Assessment:
Weekly assignments in the language; a 1-hour test in May and a 3-hour examination at the end of semester.
