A study of Russian writing, since the period of glasnost, centred on a core of novels, with background reading in literary theory, and the relationship between the society and its literature, theatre, cinema and visual arts. No knowledge of Russian is necessary.

Assessment:

A 2-hour paper; a 4000-word essay or a 2500-word essay and a class paper.
