116-461 French Part 4: Advanced Spoken and Written Language

Year 4 French.

Credit points: 16.7 4th year

Coordinator: Assoc Prof Monique Burston and Professor Colin Nettelbeck.

Prerequisite: 116-315 or equivalent.

Contact: Two hours a week (tutorial).

Timetable: Double semester

Objectives:

The objectives of the subject and teaching methodology are defined in the student's guide to En Fin de compte, pp. XVII-XXV. Read this introduction carefully.

Content:

Various activities and exercises based on documents provided by the Department; four modules from the En Fin de compte subject: one dealing with 'Pratique de l'exposé ', one with 'Pratique de l'interview', the two others with 'Pratique du dé bat'. Students will also be introduced to the use of advanced French reference grammars.

Assessment:

Two 90-minute end of semester tests (40 per cent); written and oral practical exercises (35 per cent); one 30-minute oral test (25 per cent).
