116-455 War and Identity: the French and the Second World War

Content:

A study, via a selection of written and visual texts, of how French cultural production has been obsessed with the problem of remembering - and trying to forget - the experience of the Second World War.

Assessment:

One class paper (written up in French: 1,500 words); one document analysis (1,000 words); one essay (3,000 words - accompanied by a 500 word ré sumé in French).
