Objectives:
Students completing this subject should:
- be able to analyse a range of texts dealing with women, representation and gender relations in French society;
- have developed a historical and critical understanding of the topic.
Content:
A historical and critical analysis of the role of women in their relation to the production of creative and theoretical texts in French society. Examples include women as social critics, objects of representation, creative artists and critical theorists.
Assessment:
Written assessment not more than 5,000 words: one seminar paper and class participation equivalent to not more than 1,500 words (20 per cent); one essay (1,500 words) (40 per cent); one two-hour test at the end of the semester (40 per cent).
