Elementary Stream French subject.
Note: Any student who has ever presented for Year 12 French or the equivalent is ineligible for this subject. Students with four or five years of high-school French or the equivalent should enrol in 116-103 Intermediate French I.
Credit points: 18.75 1st year
Coordinator: Dr Jane Warren.
Contact: Six hours comprising five hours of language class work and one laboratory hour per week. Full attendance required.
Timetable: First semester
Objectives:
Acquisition of basic skills: understanding simple spoken French; responding with acceptable pronunciation and accuracy; reading simple French; writing accurately, within the limits of the vocabulary and tenses introduced in the subject.
Content:
Intensive language subject for beginners. Introduction to French culture through the materials used for language acquisition.
Assessment:
Two mid-semester tests (40 per cent) Class and laboratory assignments (30 per cent); a 2-hour final written test (30 per cent). Only students with a satisfactory record of attendance (80 per cent) and regular assignments will be admitted to the final test.
