Objectives:
In addition to the above students completing this subject will
- analyze and understand the function of self-portraits from the Renaissance to the present day
- have a critical knowledge of the artist's relation to society in changing cultural contexts
- be informed on issues arising from the growth of the artist's self-awareness and autonomy
Content:
This subject concentrates on self-portraits from the Renaissance to the present day. It explores the function of self-portraits as both reflecting and constructing the artist's identity. The artist's relation to society is examined in terms of changing cultural contexts
Assessment:
One class paper of 2,500 words and one essay 3,500 words.
