Objectives:
In addition to the above students completing this subject will
- have a developed understanding of the theory and methodologies specific to the visual arts
- analyse and articulate the application of these methodologies to Renaissance and Baroque art in particular
- explore the interaction of art history methodologies with those of other disciplines
Content:
A study of selected topics which focus on applied theoretical issues unique to the study of the visual arts, including iconography, social context, gender, connoisseurship, conservation, copies and fakes, science and art, artists' biographies and the role of drawing.
Assessment:
Written work which may comprise class papers, essays, visual tests or take-home examinations totalling about 6,000 words.
