Prerequisite: Two art history subjects at second or third-year level.
Contact: One 2-hour seminar per week, occasional lectures of one hour.

Objectives:
In addition to the above, students completing this subject should:
- have an understanding of key issues in artistic and critical practice in the art of the USA from the 1970s to the 1990s;
- have the ability to locate specific artistic and critical practices within a social, historical and theoretical context;
- have the ability to conduct independent research using catalogued sources and bibliographical indexes.
Content:
The development of postmodernist practices in art and criticism in the USA.
Assessment:
Written work which may comprise class papers, essays, visual tests or take-home examinations totalling about 6,000 words.
