Prerequisite: Two art history subjects at second or third-year level.
Contact: A 2-hour seminar each week.

Objectives:
Students completing this subject should, in addition to the above:
- have the capacity to conduct research with primary source material of the period;
- have a grasp of the critical writing of the period in Australia;
- have an understanding of the expatriate movement within the specific context of Australian culture of the period;
- have familiarity with British and French art and art institutions in their relevance to the Australian expatriates.
Content:
An investigation of the aftermath of the Heidelberg School in Australia and a special study of the exodus of artists to Europe between 1890 and 1930.
Assessment:
Written work which may comprise class papers, essays, visual tests or take-home examinations totalling about 6,000 words.
