Objectives:
In addition to the above, students completing this subject should:* have a knowledge of theories of the gaze and their development in relationship to a variety of visual media.
* have a knowledge of feminist scholarship as it relates to the formation of the gendered subject.
* have an understanding of Lacanian theory and its diverse commentaries.
Content:
An examination of theories of gender and spectatorship in western visual media, in Europe, America and Australia, 1850-1900.
Assessment:
Written work which may comprise class papers, essays, visual tests or take-home examinations totalling about 5,000 words.
