Objectives:
In addition to the above, students completing this subject should:
- have a familiarity with the key developments in middle and late Byzantine art.
- have an understanding of the functions of church architecture and decorative programs in the East and the West and of their interaction.
- have developed a critical understanding of the basic principles of constructing the history of art of this period.
Content:
Interactions between Western and Byzantine Art from the 8th to the 14th century.
Assessment:
Written work which comprises class papers, essays, visual tests or take-home examinations totalling approximately 5,000 words.
