Objectives:
Students who complete this subject successfully will:
- be familiar with a range of writing in English from the seventeenth to the early twentieth century;
- understand some of the pressures and some of the problems involved in notions of canon, period, literary 'movement', historical context;
- be able to utilize both analytical and writing skills.
Content:
This subject is a study of poetry, prose and drama within the specified time-range, focusing on ways in which it has been taken to be 'representative' or 'subversive'.
Assessment:
Written work of not more than 6,000 words.
