Objectives:
Students who complete this subject successfully:
- will have acquired an understanding of some contemporary materialist, psychoanalytic and postcolonial theory in a feminist context;
- will be familiar with current feminist debates about such categories as class, culture, sexuality and gender;
- will have developed their own feminist readings of a range of theoretical, fictional and cultural texts.
Content:
This subject examines current debates within feminist theory, with particular emphasis on the impact of recent developments in materialist, psychoanalytic and postcolonial theory on feminist literary criticism and women's writing.
Assessment:
Written work of not more than 6,000 words.
