Objectives:
Students who complete this subject successfully:
- will have acquired advanced knowledge of Old English;
- will have read widely from the earliest surviving anthology of English poetry;
- will be familiar with trends in the critical reception of Old English literature over the past four centuries;
- will be aware of how to use information technology to assist them in more advanced research.
Content:
This subject studies selected poems from the earliest English anthology, in the original language, with emphasis on the historical and religious context.
Assessment:
Written work of not more than 6,000 words.
