104-402 Honours Ancient Greek B

Year 4 Classical Studies.

Credit points: 16.7 4th year

Coordinator: Associate Professor R D Scott.

Prerequisite: Admission to the Honours School in Classical Studies.

Contact: Five hours a week.

Timetable: Second semester

Objectives:

Students on completion of the subject should be able to analyse and evaluate a range of evidence relating to Ancient Greek language, culture and society (varying according to the level of Ancient Greek attempted) and have adequate preparation for conducting independent research.

Content:

The subject is composed of two elements: (i) One of Beginners' Ancient Greek B; Intermediate Ancient Greek B; Intermediate Ancient Greek D; Advanced Ancient Greek B; Advanced Ancient Greek D (50%). (ii) An advanced topic on Greek Literature and Society involving an introduction to research techniques in Classical Studies (50%).

Assessment:

Written work, tests and examinations totalling no more than 6,000 words.
