Prerequisite: 104-265/365/465 Beginners' Akkadian A.
Contact: Two hours a week.
Objectives:
Students on completion of the subject should have acquired a deeper knowledge of Akkadian grammar; an initial knowledge of the principles of Akkadian philology and epigraphy; be introduced to essential aspects of ancient Mesopotamian and Near Eastern culture through the reading of genuine texts of various kinds.
Content:
Literary and historical texts illustrating aspects of Babylonian culture; introduction to Akkadian epigraphy.
Assessment:
- 104-266/366:
- Regular exercises and class tests (30 per cent) and a 2-hour examination (70 per cent).
- 104-466:
- Written work, tests and examinations totalling no more than 6,000 words.
