104-247/347 Archaeology of Greek Religion

Prerequisite: Any two Arts subjects or permission of the Head of the Department.

Contact: One lecture and one two-hour seminar a week, or equivalent.

Objectives:

Students on completion of the subject should have acquired an understanding of the different forms of Greek cult, a knowledge of the fundamental involvement of Greek religion in Greek society and culture, and an overview of the important modern scholars of Greek religion.

Content:

The physical evidence for Greek Religion and methods of interpretation.

Assessment:

3,000 words of written work (50 per cent) and a 2-hour examination (50 per cent).
