104-232/332 Greek and Roman Historians

Availability: Not offered in 1996; expected to be offered in 1997.

Credit points: 16.7 2nd and 3rd years

Coordinator: Associate Professor R D Scott.

Prerequisite: Any two Arts subjects or permission of the Head of the Department.

Contact: Two lectures and a tutorial a week, or equivalent.

Objectives:

Students on completion of the subject should have acquired an understanding of the main features of ancient historical writing, from a careful reading of the main Ancient Greek and Roman writers of history.

Content:

The major historians of classical antiquity, studied as literary figures.

Assessment:

3,000 words of written work (50 per cent) and a 2-hour examination (50 per cent).
