104-223/323 Greece in the Bronze Age

Availability: Not offered in 1996; expected to be offered in 1997.

Credit points: 16.7 2nd and 3rd years

Coordinator: Dr E Pemberton.

Prerequisite: Any two Arts subjects or permission of the Head of the Department.

Contact: Two lectures and a tutorial a week.

Objectives:

Students on completion of the subject should have acquired an understanding of the material culture of these two civilisations; a familiarity of the archaeological methods used to interpret the artefacts; and an appreciation of the role of these two cultures in the ancient world.

Content:

An introduction to the Minoan (Cretan) and Mycenaean (mainland) cultures of Greece.

Assessment:

Written work of 3,000 words (40 per cent), one slide tests (30 per cent) and a 1-hour examination (30 per cent).
