104-145 Classical Mythology

Year 1 Classical Studies.

Credit points: 12.5 1st year

Coordinator: Dr C J Mackie.

Prerequisite: None.

Contact: Two lectures and a tutorial a week.

Timetable: Second semester

Objectives:

Students on completion of this subject should be able to: recognise the main classical mythological narratives, their principal themes and cultural significance and understand some of the major scholarly approaches to the subject matter treated in the subject.

Content:

Classical myths in (especially) Greek, but also Roman culture, with particular reference to their currency in literature and in the material remains.

Assessment:

Written work of 2,000 words (50 per cent) and a 2-hour examination (50 per cent)
