Objectives:
On the completion of this subject students should be able to demonstrate that they:
- have developed an appreciation of the theoretical discourse (from the philosophical to the technical), informing a specialist aspect of design or design practice;
- or, have developed an appreciation of the theoretical discourse (from the philosophical to the technical), informing an interdisciplinary aspect of design or design practice;
- have developed techniques for evaluating these positions and applying them in design, including a range of techniques for successfully conducting independent research.
Content:
Students will be able to choose from a range of specialist or inter-disciplinary design theory lecture/seminar programs. These programs will introduce contemporary and historical theories relevant to the theme of the program, including techniques for research and evaluation and their application.
Assessment:
Assignments (eg: exercises, essays, and class presentations) equivalent to not more than 7,500 words during the semester. Details, including the weighting of assessment, will be made available within the first 2 weeks of the semester.
