702-332 Australian Architecture B

Prerequisite: 702-331 Australian Architecture A

Contact: Two lectures and one tutorial a week or the equivalent.

Timetable: Second semester

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to demonstrate that they:

• have a knowledge of the technical aspects of Australian buildings;
• are broadly familiar with the philosophy of conservation and the main avenues for researching buildings;
• have a substantial skill in the documentary and physical investigation of buildings.

Content:

An introduction to the history of building technology in Australia, the techniques of measuring and recording buildings, historical investigation from primary sources, conservation analyses, and the development of conservation policy for buildings and areas.

Assessment:

An investigation paper and exercises (drawn and/or written) to the equivalent of not more than 7,500 words. Details, including the weighting of assessment, will be made available in the first two weeks of semester.
