A historical study of selected aspects of the architecture and art traditions of the societies of China and Japan relating them to others in the Asian region. Particular emphasis will be given to developments since the nineteenth century under the impact of social, political and economic contacts with the cultures of Europe and America, and to their relation to contemporary art and architecture in Australia.

Assessment:

An essay, major study and class paper to the equivalent of not more than 7,500 words. Details, including the weighting of assessment, will be made available in the first two weeks of semester.
