211-216 Forest Dendrology

Year 2 Forestry.

Credit points: 6

Coordinator: Mr R Hateley.

Prerequisite: 600-141 Biology of Cells and Organisms, 600-142 Genetics & the Evolution of Life

Contact: 18 hours of lectures and 18 hours of practical work.

Timetable: Second semester

Objectives:

On completion of the unit, students should be: competent in the identification, taxonomy and morphology of eucalypts, conifers deciduous hardwoods and other important elements of the Australian flora; aware of the distribution, characteristics and uses of many Australian forest species.

Content:

Recognition of eucalypts and other native trees and shrubs, conifers and deciduous hardwoods; geographic distribution, properties, and uses of selected trees adn shrubs.

Assessment:

A 3-hour written examination and written tests and practical assignments may be given throughout the course
