• demonstrate a capacity to analyse and evaluate theoretical discussion on selected topics in employee relations;
• analyse and evaluate research projects from the body of empirical research;
• relate knowledge gained from analysis and evaluation of research to contemporary examples of employee relations issues, and comment critically on the issues involved.

Special topics will be offered which reflect the research interests and activities of departmental staff and/or visiting scholars. This would allow students to investigate in detail specialised topics which would not usually be offered as part of the Department's programme. Assignments totalling no more than 2,000 words (20%) and one 3-hour examination (80%).
