Ms Helen De Cieri First semester Classes totalling three hours per week throughout the semester. On completion of this subject, students should:

• have an understanding of theories underlying the nature of international management;
• be able to analyse and evaluate the body of empirical research conducted on international management matters;
• be able to relate this knowledge to contemporary examples of international management practice.

This course will provide an examination of the contextual, organisational and managerial issues associated with operating a multinational enterprise (MNE). Interactions between contextual elements and management of an international enterprise will be studied from both theoretical and practical perspectives. The major focus of the course will include topics such as: forms of development of MNEs and their implications for management; organisation of international operations; international strategic management; social responsibility of MNEs; cross-cultural management issues; co-ordination and control in MNEs; staffing policies of MNEs and expatriate management. A two-hour end-of-semester examination (70%); assignments not exceeding 3,000 words (30%).
