<PREREQUISITES>None (Note: Entry to this subject is restricted to students who have completed 75 points of first year subjects. )

<OBJECTIVES>On completion of this subject students should be able to:

<li>understand the major functions and activities involved in human resource management;
<li>comprehend how human resources can be managed effectively for the benefit of the individual, organisation and society;
<li>identify the relationship of the human resource and other management functions in organisations.
</ul>
</OBJECTIVES>
<CONTENT>Planning and forecasting human resource requirements. Recruitment and selection. Remuneration and reward systems. Appraisal, evaluation and employee motivation. Design and implementation of employee training and development programs. Quality of worklife and productivity improvement programs. Managing effective working relationships.
<ASSESSMENT>A 2-hour end-of-semester examination (70 per cent) and assignments totalling 2,000 words (30 per cent).
