<TITLE>INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS LAW</TITLE>

<CONTACT>Two 1-hour lectures and one 1-hour tutorial a week.
<OBJECTIVES>At the end of this subject students should:
<ul>
<li>have an understanding of the legal system, the court hierarchy and legal concepts;
<li>be conversant with the notions of precedent, statutory interpretation and different types of law;
<li>be familiar with the basic principles of contract law;
<li>appreciate how the law affects and supports commercial organisations.
</ul>
</OBJECTIVES>
<CONTENT>An introduction to the way in which the legal system and legal rules impact upon commercial transactions. Introduction to Business Law will focus mainly upon three law of contract which is fundamental to all commercial activity.
<p>Topics will include: The process of lawmaking, formation of contract, terms of the contract, negotiability, misrepresentation (common law and statutory), impaired contracts, discharge of contract, remedies, product liability, crime and business.</p>

<ASSESSMENT>A 3-hour examination at the end of the semester.
