16.7 3rd year Associate Professor J S Martin. Intermediate Swedish Second Year B (126-224). First semester A one-hour lecture and a one-and-a-half-hour seminar a week. At the conclusion of the subject the students will have:

• surveyed some of the main works of Swedish film and concentrated on four films;
• a synchronic and diachronic grasp of some of the principal features, periods and themes of European culture through acquaintance with Swedish culture.

Swedish history in the 19th and 20th centuries with an emphasis on cultural elements (August Strindberg, the Swedish novel and film). Written work and language tests of not more than 5,000 words. See departmental Course and Subject Guide
