16.7 3rd year Associate Professor J S Martin. Beginners Swedish Second Year B (126-222). First semester Two lectures, a tutorial and a language laboratory session. At the conclusion of the subject the students should:

• have consolidated their knowledge of the Swedish language at an intermediate level of proficiency;
• have viewed the Swedish society from the Viking Era to modern times in the Swedish language;
• be able to communicate in spoken and written Swedish within the compass of a minimum vocabulary of 5,000 words;
• achieved the level of language competency required for admittance into Intermediate Swedish Third Year B (126-324).

Advanced Swedish language study of Swedish texts from 1550 to the present, and a survey of 20th-century Swedish history and society. Written work and language tests of not more than 5,000 words. See departmental Course and Subject Guide
