<OBJECTIVES>Students on completion of this subject will:
<ul>
<li>be introduced to Old Norse, the language of Scandinavia during the Viking Era (c. 800-1050 AD);
<li>have developed reading skills in Old Norse so that they can read simple texts;
<li>be introduced to the history and culture of Scandinavia during the Viking Era (c. 800-1050 AD).
</ul>
<CONTENT>An introduction to the Old Norse language and a survey of the history and culture of the Viking Era (c. 800-1050 AD).
<ASSESSMENT>Weekly assignments in the language; a 1-hour test in May and a 3-hour examination at the end of semester.
