<OBJECTIVES>Students who complete this subject should be able to:
<ul>
<li>demonstrate knowledge of current research and theories on a range of vulnerable populations including those relating to disabilities, alcohol and drug use, chronic illness and child abuse;
<li>demonstrate an insight into the experiences of individuals and groups labelled 'vulnerable' in our community, and the social construction of such categories;
<li>demonstrate the capacity to critically apply and integrate relevant theory with fieldwork practice experience;
<li>reflect critically on the theoretical perspectives and value assumptions implicit in the literature relevant to the subjective experiences and in students' own beliefs and attitudes.
</ul>
<CONTENT>Psycho-social development and adaption across the life-span in relation to its relevance to social work practice.
<ASSESSMENT>Written assignments of up to 4,000 words.
