<OBJECTIVES>Students who complete this subject should be able to:
<ul>
<li>apply their understanding of an ecological model of human development to a specific person-situation configuration;
<li>analyse an individual's social networks in relation to their structural and interactional properties, and their potential as a stress-buffer and stress-inducer;
<li>identify the significant bio-psycho-social transitions associated with the development of individuals from infancy to old age, understanding patterns of individual variation and the importance of class, gender and culture;
<li>describe individual patterns of coping and adaptation and the significance of protective and vulnerability factors in determining stress resilience;
<li>apply concepts related to loss to a broad range of stressful life events including bereavement, migration, role loss and disrupted social attachment;
<li>reflect critically on the theoretical perspectives and value assumptions implicit in the literature relevant to the subjective experiences and in students' own beliefs and attitudes.
