<OBJECTIVES>By the end of the subject, students should be able to:
<ul>
<li>All students should be able to carry out informal interpreting;
<li>Background speakers: also more formal interpreting;
<li>Background speakers at least should be able to sit assessment tests with NAATI, and acquire a formal qualification.
</ul>
<CONTENT>Theory and principles or oral interpreting (consecutive and simultaneous); videos of professional practice will be used; structured practice by simulated interpreting sessions (all with special reference to Russian).
<ASSESSMENT>Two simulated interpreting sessions lasting 15-20 minutes; one essay of 1,000 words and a class paper.
