<li>a thorough understanding of the cultural development of Russia during the period covered;
<li>the ability to form critical opinions regarding the significance and value of Russian texts in a national and global context, to discuss these in a scholarly way and to communicate their knowledge to the surrounding community.
</ul>
<CONTENT>Major works of Russian literature in English, in the context of Russian society 988-1855.
<ASSESSMENT>A total of 4,000 words (which may include essay, tutorial paper and exam).
