<OBJECTIVES>At the completion of this subject, students should have an understanding of basic ontological and epistemological issues about mathematics, including the nature of number, the motivation of set-theoretic axioms, constructivism.
<CONTENT>Classical 20th century formulations, and more recent literature, on the metaphysics and epistemology of mathematics.
<ASSESSMENT>Written work of up to 5,000 words during the semester. Students will be advised in the first week of the subject of actual due dates.
