<OBJECTIVES>Students who complete this subject should be able to:
<ul>
<li>demonstrate familiarity with current frameworks for approaching the types of application covered in the subject, and the major historical developments leading up to them;
<li>demonstrate an awareness of the specific conceptual and practical issues and difficulties of the types of applications covered in the subject;
<li>design simple computer programs to solve the kinds of language processing problems considered in the subject.
</ul>
<CONTENT>A project-based introduction to techniques and issues in computational linguistics.
<ASSESSMENT>Assignments, essays and projects, totalling 5,000 words.
